This book sets out to drill and test the language skills of pre-school children and, in some cases, infant school pupils, in various areas of language functioning: lexical and functional classes and subclasses, and phrasal structure. The tasks are based around illustrations in which the child is asked to make a judgement about a specific situation or context depicted in the illustration. There are three different exercises for each illustration, with a total of 80 illustrations and 240 exercises. Success in the tasks presupposes: picture comprehension, as the child has to attribute a general meaning to the elements depicted in the illustration; verbal comprehension, since the child is led through comprehension activities that involve two propositions and has to extract meanings from the phrasal contexts presented.
